CELEBRATION, 90/365

The impending arrival of a first baby is cause for a "Celebration," Theme #42. My youngest daughter and soon to arrive grandchild were the guests of honor at a shower hosted by her friends.
And, no, the blue bow isn't indicative of a grandson on the way. Rotten little girl that she is, she chose not to learn the sex of the baby.
This is greatly cramping my grandma-ing! How many green or yellow outfits can one kid need?

FASTENERS, 89/365

Back to the Ikea concept.... the furniture comes flat packed for transport which made it easy to get an entire nursery's worth of furniture to our daughter's home in a neighboring state. Anticipating grandpa, Mr. Lorri, assembles the furniture using Ikea's "Fasteners," Theme #94, which consist, in part, of wooden dowels.

URBAN, 88/365

The parking lot of a Hobby Lobby in a Cincinnati suburb becomes a resting spot for a couple of "Urban," Theme #346, geese.

NAVIGATIONAL AIDS, 87/365

Once you enter the Ikea machine, there's only one way out...and it takes you through the entire store. (Talk about organizational genius...you're directed through every department in the store)

People trudge along like little drones as they follow the "Navigational Aids," Theme #196, on the floor. On a busy day it's almost creepy.

(Secret Getaway Tip....there are shortcuts along the divider walls in some departments. They are sanity savers, you'll want to find them.)

ORGANIZED, 86/365

My first visit to Ikea. It's like a dreamscape for the very "Organized," Theme #214.

Used my phone for this shot so the focus leaves something to be desired.

SPRING, 85/365

A sure sign of "Spring," Theme #300, is the daily presence of the neighborhood groundhogs. Spotted this guy nosing around under the birdfeeders.
Looks all cute and cuddly, doesn't he? The little rascals can eat a backyard bare in no time flat. They are particularly fond of vegetable gardens and purple coneflowers.

INSPIRATION, 84/365

"Inspiration," Theme #159, can be found in surprising places.
When I saw this threesome hiking along the roadside at the edge of our tiny town, I had to pull over for some conversation and a photo. The word "cancer" leaps out at you from unexpected places if your family has been touched by it in any form. The sign on his back sums up why they're walking (canine cancer) and where they can be found on the web. His particular focus is on identifying a cause so the disease can be prevented in the first place.

Advances found across the spectrum benefit everyone and everything in the battle (research "comparative oncology" if you want to know more about the animal/human cancer link) so Luke & Co.'s efforts can have a profound impact on us all.

They've put in more than 1000 miles in just over a year and plan to reach Boston at their 2 year anniversary next March. Austin to Boston. On foot. Talk about living what you believe and being passionate about making a positive change!

If you see them in your area, be sure to welcome them! I hope to see more photos of them on our blog group as they travel toward Boston! In the meantime, visit Hudson, Murphy and Luke on the web at

YELLOW, 83/365

There are daffodils and there are daffodils. I sat carefully down in the midst of the flowers intending to capture one of the very traditional one color varieties but the delicate white petals and ruffled "Yellow," Theme #365, cups of these daffodils really caught my eye.

Monday, March 23, 2009

ORANGE, 82/365

The daffodils are making a valiant effort to bring some springtime smiles. The sunny disposition of the bright "Orange," Theme #213, centers really brightens my day.

RECESSIONARY ECONOMICS 81/365

With pay cuts the current standard and pay raises a distant memory, companies are pushing the envelope to find low cost ways to bolster morale and show appreciation to employees. Gumby epitomizes the new found flexibility of the working guy.

Gumby is the new face of "Recessionary Economics," Theme #253 . He bends at will with a smile permanently plastered on his face.

"Oh, oh, Prickle....we're in a pickle!"--Gumby

CLOCKS, 80/365

My brother-in-law keeps a collection of "Clocks," Theme #53. Thankfully, only a few of them actually chime.

Friday, March 20, 2009

SHADOWS, 79/365

Finally! A day of bright warm sunshine. I was surprised to see the deep "Shadows," Theme #279, cast on the dining room wall.

NURSERY RHYMES, 78/365

A castle at a miniature golf course reminded me of a riddle from an old book of "Nursery Rhymes," Theme #204.

Bold"As high as a castle,

As weak as a wastle;

And all the King's horses

Cannot pull it down."

-------from The Little Mother Goose, 1912

The riddle's answer, by the way, is "smoke."

TAGGED

Sixth photo folder, sixth photo implies a lot more organization than actually exists in my world but I managed!

Eldest of the Misses Lorri and her family. The little guy is the about-to-be-deposed ruler of our grandparenting world. He will become a cousin in a few weeks and will have to share the photo spotlight.

I have spread the love by tagging 6 additional players. Hopefully at least some of them have not been tagged before!

Here are the rules: •Go to your photo folder on your computer•Go to the 6th folder of photos•Go to the sixth picture•Put the picture on your blog and a description of it•Invite six friends to join the challenge•Link them in your blog

CLOUDS, 77/365

Far into yet another dreary late winter day...the sun breaks through the "Clouds," Theme #56, and the result is a majestic promise of brighter spring days ahead.

GREEN, 76/365

On St. Patrick's Day in my daycare, the children would wake from their naps and find blocks strewn across the floor, coloring crayons in the paint wells, missing shoes and cookie crumbs on the table. As they cleaned up the mess they would discover trails of glittering green footprints left behind by mischievous leprechauns. Stashed deep in the toes of their missing shoes would be gold wrapped chocolate coins.
With no children to taunt, the leprechauns have passed by my home, and my "Green," Theme #129, glitter, this year.

TIMES GONE BY, 75/365

The rural midwest is dotted with disappearing little towns. One street wonders where you can see signs of former glory days--a dusty unused post office, empty storefronts, the deteriorating building blocks of a once bustling community. The boarded up buildings in the former railyard tell a tale of "Times Gone By," Theme #331.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

UP ON TOP, 74/365

Same sleepy town as the store of wonderful old things that go. I look above the vacant Friars Lantern and see a wonderful row of old bay windows and a columned second floor porch. What a view it must have been from "Up on Top," Theme #344, years ago when the town was full of life.

THINGS THAT GO, 73/365

The dusty windows of a seemingly abandoned storefront reveal the contents--cars and motorcycles. Parked in every square foot of space, the place is cram packed. Everything is coated in a layer of dust and neglect. I couldn't figure out what the little blue car is but I'll admit I'm intrigued by both cars and owner. Who would stuff a building with such wonderful "Things that Go," Theme #325, then just walk away for years?

SWIRLS, 72/365

Farm implements are like abstract sculpture when they're not in use. I like the "Swirls," theme #314, on this hay rake.

Thursday, March 12, 2009

GRUMPY, 71/365

Maybe he's more obnoxious than he is "Grumpy," Theme #133. Whatever the diagnosis, it's best not to let this old goat get out of your line of sight when you go into the farm lot.

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

FURRY, 70/365

Some people think the large horns make him look menacing, some people think he looks like a gentle giant, everyone agrees he is one "Furry," theme #115, cow. Rudy, one of the Scottish Highlands on my sister's farm.

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

FEATHERED OR FEATHERS, 69/365

The farm lot is filled with a variety of things that are "Feathered," Theme #96.

Monday, March 9, 2009

BREAKFAST, 68/365

LIttle Miss Haylee gathers eggs for tomorrow's "Breakfast," Theme #34.

Sunday, March 8, 2009

CANINE COMPANIONS, 67/365

Kiki and Kelly (the middle miss of the Daughters Lorri) get to know one another. Kiki is my sister's new "Canine Companion," Theme #41.

CANDLELIGHT, 66/365

The power was out from late afternoon until the wee hours of the morning on Saturday. The older kids spent the evening playing games by "Candlelight," Theme #39.

Friday, March 6, 2009

RUSTED, 65/365

An old "rusted," theme #266, silo stands guard over an abandoned lean-to.

LOGS, 64/365

Once upon a time there was a lot filled with trees which were cut down for "Logs," Theme #175, which were used for utility poles. Which were then discarded on the empty lot which was once filled with trees which were cut down for.....

A LIttle Photo Humor

Taking a brief detour without my camera for a a funny photography story. One of the Daughters Lorri phoned last night. She was humorously annoyed with her 7 year old son. Daughter and her son were looking through some photos she had taken several years ago in Dallas, Texas.

She was enjoying his interest and excitement about her photos until he found one he really liked and exclaimed,

"THAT is a GREAT picture, mom.......Did grandma take it?"

(Excuse me now, I need to make a stop at the toy store....)

PRINT MEDIA, 63/365

I opened the latest edition of Helen magazine and found one of my photos in an ad on page three. Very cool to find my shot in "Print Media," Theme #240.

(Mine is the little white country church there in the middle of the page. Another fun little connection--my youngest daughter was the hair stylist for the cover model.)

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD, 62/365

Today's lunch is stir fry, a colorful concoction of "Food Glorious Food," Theme #106.

Monday, March 2, 2009

WHAT AM I?, 61/365

Even though I take the pictures, sometimes I'm at a loss to explain one. This shot asked "What am I?," Theme #356, several times before the answer came to me.

WATER'S EDGE, 60/365

Driving the road along the spillway of the lake puts me almost eye level at the "Water's Edge," Theme #354.

WHO PUT THAT THERE, 59/365

Walking along the edge of the lake, we see lots of fishing line hanging from tree branches. But a whole net? I wonder, "Who put that there," Theme #360.
