NAVIGATIONAL AIDS, 87/365

Once you enter the Ikea machine, there's only one way out...and it takes you through the entire store. (Talk about organizational genius...you're directed through every department in the store)

People trudge along like little drones as they follow the "Navigational Aids," Theme #196, on the floor. On a busy day it's almost creepy.

(Secret Getaway Tip....there are shortcuts along the divider walls in some departments. They are sanity savers, you'll want to find them.)

  1. With shots like that I usually touch my thumb with my index finger hold up my hand and say "Wrong" I followed those things in my Ikea visit, and swear I only got out because it was closing time and security made sure I left. I won't go back.

  2. *Haha* What a brilliant take on the theme!! I completely agree with you post. IKEA started off in Sweden, where you NEVER manage to fill an IKEA store. All in all you have 2-3 people browsing each department. Last summer, visiting Sweden, we were amazed that we actually managed to leave our kids at the "Smaland" children's play center, walk around the store, picking all the things that we wanted to buy, pay at the till and then still wait another 10 minutes before picking the children up *here in UK we have to find our way back to check them out* halfway through the shopping. That's when the shortcuts comes in handy! ;)

  4. Each time I go there, I swear I'll never return. It amazes me that it is so popular when they treat customers like rodents in a maze.

I love your shot and it is a PERFECT idea for this theme. Very clever....

  6. This is absolutely perfect for the theme. I have never been to an Ikea store, so I didn't know about the arrows. Great capture.

  8. Hmmm - it could get scary if you needed to make an emergency evacuation. Good shot of the navigational aid though.

  9. Good one! I found the escapes too, in the nick of time. Cool stuff and good design but an overwhelming place.
